6 B.C.: The 72.3 Plan

Here we are, a little over a month past the supposed start date, and no progress yet.  Plans have been in the plan check loop for several weeks.  We were warned, but no less annoying.  Despite the delays on the house, I'm taking the opportunity to ramp up the parallel initiatives of the remodel that seek to get my writing and body back on track.  This is the 72.3 Plan.

The 72.3 Plan will work like this:
From Day 0 - the moment ground is broken on the house - I am committing to writing 72.3 hours and working out 72.3 hours before the project is completed.  At the currently estimated 4 months to rebuild, this works out to about 4.5 hours a week for each.

At the end of each week, I'll log my hours on the way to 72.3.  4.5 hours a week of writing, 4.5 hours a week of exercise.  Modest goals to be sure, but more importantly, doable goals.  A vast improvement over the goose-egg of the past 2 years, and enough that will rebuild a routine that can last.

And here's the beauty part: if the construction takes longer than 4 months (it will), I buy myself more time to get there.  So the inevitable fuming that will occur while the remodel lags interminably will be offset by the additional time I will have to reach the auxiliary goals.  Foolproof!

So why 72.3?  Well, 723 is my favorite number (determined after the preferential ranking of all digits I performed in 1st grade: 7-2-3-5-1-0-8-4-9-6.  Insane, you say?  I think not).  723 hours was too high, and 723 minutes was too low.  But 72.3 - just right.  Can't wait for those last 18 minutes.
