0 A.D. (After Demolition)

Woo-frickin-hoo.  Tomorrow became today.  A new time begins that marks in process rather than waiting to process.  As exciting as demolition was because it marked the start of something new, it was equally exciting for what it signaled an end to.  The months and years of fretting, reworking, new architects, new plans, new engineers, new contractors, new bids - all preparation for something else.  For today.

I'm not naive enough to think that the decisions and obstacles ended today, but I do believe that we need endings and beginnings to rejuvenate us to handle life's challenges.  We need goodbyes to appreciate hellos.  We use our memories to inspire our vision.  Today was an inspiration day.

Here's the damage:

The walls of the converted patio-turned-home office came down within the first hour.  One of the advantages of the cardboard insulation and plastic window school of construction.  Reminds me of the first little pig.
By midday, the entire back structure had been razed.  Our contractor said they found a page from a 1963 newspaper stuffed in the walls.  I haven't had a chance to check it out yet.  Maybe it contains a map that leads to a secret buried treasure or predicts a future event, like some sort of structural fortune cookie.  Hmm, probably not.

By the end of day one they had peeled off the stucco from the back wall and were starting on the concrete decking, which should be finished tomorrow.  The nasty original era pool equipment has been removed also.  The pool is being drained overnight.  These guys are good.
You have to burn it down before it will grow again.

Finally, in keeping with the current theme of tearing down to build anew, I engaged in a ritual headshaving.  No more haircuts till the project is complete.  Last time I tried this was with a script I was writing.  That hair adventure didn't end so well.  We'll see if we have better luck this time around.
