1 A.D.: A Slow News Day

The demo guys seemed to have expended all their fun tearing frame down yesterday, because all they sent today was one lonely soul with a jackhammer who had to jack, pry, and haul all by himself for 8 hours.  As a result, the awesome gush of progress from yesterday was down to a trickle today.  Oh well.  Pool guys come tomorrow to start framing the new footprint.  Click through to the pics, and to more on the 1963 newspaper.

The house demo is complete, and kind of cool looking right now.  Now it's just a matter of this concrete slab.

Enter jackhammerboy, who spent his day single-handedly working his way through this.  He was slow going.  In the 30 seconds of my life spent jackhammering, I know that it's one of those things that seems like it should be fun but loses its appeal rather quickly (like in 30 seconds).  Still, it seemed like he plodded along simply out of boredom more than any physical limitation.

The pool was nearly drained by day's end.  Pretty fun to walk down into the shell.  Skater friends, now's your chance.

Finally, the August 13, 1963 edition of the Van Nuys News buried in the wall.  My favorite parts: the Valley needs rapid transit to handle massive growth! (some things have barely changed); men's dress shirts, 3 for $10; and the B5000 computer receives its own air-conditioned room to process payroll for LA Board of Education.
